Shipley Do-Nuts Unveils Limited-Time “YAYs,” a Fresh Take on Beignets

Houston’s beloved Shipley Do-Nuts is bringing a taste of New Orleans to its menu with the introduction of YAYs, a brand-new take on the classic beignet. Just in time for the excitement of Mardi Gras and the football championship season, these warm, powdered-sugar-dusted delights are available for a limited time through early April at participating locations.

A Sweet New Addition to the Shipley Menu

Handmade fresh daily using Shipley’s signature yeast dough, the new YAYs are deep-fried to pillowy perfection. They are then generously shaken in powdered sugar and served warm. Customers can indulge in this treat in various sizes, with prices starting at just $2 for a four-piece order. Larger servings of 12 for $5 or 24 for $10 make them perfect for sharing at parties or family gatherings.

Inspired by the popularity of beignets, which are already available at select Shipley locations from Houston to New Orleans, YAYs pay homage to the Crescent City’s deep-rooted food culture. The timing of their release aligns perfectly with the Mardi Gras season. This is a time when beignets become a staple for festival-goers and locals alike.

“Since Houston is known as New Orleans’ sister city, it’s only right that Shipley offers our twist on Louisiana’s official state donut with a new snack-sized treat,” said Shipley Director of Culinary Kaitlyn Venable. “Made fresh daily, our mouthwatering new YAYs offer our unique take on the classic favorite, delivering a light, airy, sweet treat perfect for any time of day.”

Shipley Do-Happy Rewards members can score a free order of four YAYs with any $5 purchase through Feb. 10, adding even more excitement to this festive season.

The History of Beignets and Where to Find the Best Ones

The beignet, a French-style doughnut, was introduced to Louisiana by French settlers in the 18th century. Over time, it became an iconic New Orleans treat. This was especially popularized by Café du Monde, the historic coffee shop in the French Quarter. Typically served hot and coated in a generous dusting of powdered sugar, beignets are often paired with a café au lait made with chicory coffee.

While Café du Monde remains the most famous destination for beignets, other standout locations include Morning Call Coffee Stand and Loretta’s Authentic Pralines. Here, beignets are infused with unique flavors like praline and chocolate.

Outside of New Orleans, many cities have embraced beignets, particularly in the Gulf Coast region. With Shipley Do-Nuts now entering the beignet game, YAYs offer a convenient and delicious way to enjoy this classic treat in a fresh, new way.
