In a heartwarming milestone for animal lovers, Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash have exceeded their ambitious 2024 goal of helping 15,000 dogs and cats find forever homes. By year-end, a remarkable 17,215 pets have been adopted, cementing the brands’ commitment to the welfare of animals in need.

A Record-Breaking Year of Compassion

The achievement is a testament to the brands’ dedication to combating the growing need for pet adoptions. According to the ASPCA, each year, over 6.3 million dogs and cats enter shelters, many facing uncertain futures due to overcrowded facilities. To address this crisis, Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash partnered with local rescues and shelters, hosting over 1,500 adoption events at their stores nationwide.

“We are incredibly proud that we’ve been able to help more than 17,000 dogs and cats find their forever family – it’s a huge milestone for our brand – but our work isn’t over,” said Chris Rowland, CEO of Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash. “Pets are true members of our families and can make such a powerful impact on their owners’ lives. We hope to encourage even more people to consider adoption next year and welcome a dog or cat into their home.”

This mission is not only about finding homes for animals but also raising awareness about the significance of adoption. With many shelters facing capacity crises—hosting 900,000 more animals compared to early 2021—the brands’ efforts are crucial in alleviating strain on these facilities.

Looking Ahead: Bigger Goals for 2025

As 2024 wraps up with this inspiring success, Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash are already setting their sights on an even larger goal: helping 20,000 pets find homes in 2025. They plan to continue hosting adoption events, building awareness, and encouraging families to open their hearts to pets in need.

Their growing network of stores has been instrumental in their mission. Both brands bring unique offerings that attract pet owners, from full-service grooming and self-serve pet wash stations to an extensive range of pet products. These services not only support existing pet families but also help create a community of compassion that inspires more adoptions.

With 82 million U.S. households owning pets, including 58 million with dogs and 40 million with cats, the brands are tapping into a growing culture of pet ownership. Their efforts contribute to the ongoing decline in euthanasia rates and support shelters’ push to become no-kill facilities.

Understanding the Pet Adoption Process

Adopting a pet is a rewarding experience, but it typically involves a structured process to ensure the animal and adopter are a good match. It often begins with a visit to a shelter, rescue group, or supporting location in person, where potential adopters can meet animals looking for homes. Many organizations provide profiles of each pet, detailing their age, breed, temperament, medical history, and any special needs.

Once a potential match is identified, most shelters or adoption support locations require adopters to fill out an application. This form asks questions about the applicant’s living situation, previous pet experience, and lifestyle to ensure they are prepared for the responsibilities of pet ownership. Some organizations also conduct interviews or home visits to confirm that the home environment is safe and suitable for the pet. If approved, the adopter typically pays a small fee to cover the pet’s medical care, such as vaccinations and spaying or neutering. After finalizing the paperwork, the pet can officially join its new family.

Post-adoption, many shelters offer resources like training classes, advice on integration, and follow-up support to ensure a smooth transition. While the process may seem detailed, it helps ensure that each pet is placed in a loving, permanent home.

A Call to Action

As the need for pet adoptions remains high, Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N’ Wash invite communities to join them in their mission. From attending an adoption event to spreading the word, every small action contributes to giving pets the lives they deserve.
