Mathnasium Learning Centers, a global leader in supplemental math education, has achieved a historic milestone by opening its 1,000th U.S. center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This achievement comes as the franchise celebrates a year of exceptional growth and accolades. These numbers add up to further cementing their reputation as a premier provider of math learning services worldwide.

A Year of Growth and A+ Recognition

Mathnasium’s 1,000th U.S. center, owned by first-time franchisees Katy and Ernie Lawley, symbolizes the brand’s relentless pursuit of improving math proficiency and building confidence among students.

“Reaching the 1,000 mark in the U.S. is a proud achievement that reflects the hard work and passion of our entire Mathnasium team—from our franchisees and center instructors to our corporate staff,” said Tyler Sgro, CEO of Mathnasium. “This achievement is not just a number; it’s a testament to our mission, growing demand for high-quality math education and the impact our method is having on students across the country.

The milestone caps off a year of growth that included awarding 184 new franchise agreements and welcoming 54 first-time franchisees. The brand also saw 21 existing franchisees expand their portfolios, alongside a surge in resale transactions. Internationally, Mathnasium opened 24 new centers in Canada, achieving a 66% year-over-year growth rate and reaching 100 locations. The company also entered Romania, aiming to open 25 centers in the coming years, marking its commitment to global expansion.

Recognition for Mathnasium’s accomplishments came from prestigious rankings, such as #97 on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500®, #7 in Top Low-Cost Franchises, and #118 in Top Global Franchises. The brand’s recognition extended to rankings that highlight resilience, inclusivity, and franchisee satisfaction, including Franchise Business Review’s Top Recession-Proof Franchises and Top Franchises for Women.

Mathnasium Setting the Stage for 2025

Mathnasium’s growth strategy for 2025 includes expanding into new U.S. markets such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. While also exploring international opportunities in the Middle East and Latin America. According to Mathnasium, the brand’s comprehensive support for franchisees—spanning training, marketing, and proprietary tools—ensures a solid foundation for continued success.

Kevin Shen, Chief Development Officer, highlighted the company’s broader mission: “With each new location, we’re not only growing the Mathnasium brand, we’re also creating meaningful opportunities for students to gain confidence, excel in school, and prepare for successful careers.”

As Mathnasium looks ahead, its focus on innovation, franchisee support, and strategic expansion positions the brand for another stellar year.
