Camp Bow Wow®, a major player in the doggy daycare and boarding franchise space, is making waves once again with the launch of its latest educational initiative, Pawsitive Start Jr. Designed for puppies aged 4 months to 1 year, this innovative program sets young dogs up for success by providing essential socialization, learning opportunities, and enrichment in a fun and structured environment. Created by Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, the program mirrors the nurturing environment of preschool for puppies.

    A Tail-Wagging Learning Experience

Like toddlers at preschool, puppies enrolled in Pawsitive Start Jr. follow a structured daily routine aimed at fostering development and good behavior. The program offers a blend of socialization, essential skill-building, and enrichment activities designed to ensure puppies thrive well into adulthood.

Key components of the program include:

    • Daily group playtime for socializing with other dogs
    • A rotating daily activity that focuses on skills, positive experiences, and exposure to new objects
    • Cabin enrichment time, where puppies engage with food puzzles and calming activities
    • Designated nap times to keep the pups refreshed and energized
    • Daily report cards to keep pet parents in the loop about their pup’s progress

In addition to these activities, the program extends beyond Camp, offering pet parents educational handouts to continue their puppy’s development at home.

Setting Puppies Up for Lifelong Success

Erin Askeland, the mastermind behind Pawsitive Start Jr., highlights the importance of early socialization for puppies. “Dogs who continue their socialization throughout puppyhood are more likely to be comfortable around other dogs and humans and in new situations as adults,” said Askeland. “Our new program offers a comprehensive approach designed to help young dogs thrive, lead happier lives with their families, and have more fun at Camp when their parents are away.”

By creating positive and enriching experiences during these formative months, Camp Bow Wow is helping puppies grow into well-adjusted dogs—both at home and in new environments.

    A Commitment to Canine Happiness

Since opening in 2000, Camp Bow Wow has been an influencer in the trajectory of the doggy daycare industry. Over the years, they have welcomed over 50 million dog visits. Pawsitive Start Jr. is the latest service in their ever-expanding offerings, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to providing the highest levels of fun, safety, and care for dogs.

Julie Turner, President of Camp Bow Wow, shared her enthusiasm for the program’s potential. “As a leader in the doggy daycare and boarding space, we designed Pawsitive Start Jr. as yet another way we can further our mission of Making Dogs Happy while reinforcing our commitment to improving the health and well-being of dogs,” said Turner. “By fostering the development of essential social and cognitive skills, we can play a vital role in a puppy’s journey and offer support to pet parents.”

After successful testing at select Camp Bow Wow locations, Pawsitive Start Jr. is set to roll out to more locations across North America in the coming months. Pet parents eager to enroll their pups in this enriching experience are encouraged to check with their local Camp for availability.

    Chise Takeaway

Camp Bow Wow’s new program launch showcases that not all customers or fury friends are the same. Franchise brands catering to the specific needs of the various segments of their consumer base could provide more value to the end user while remaining in their area of expertise. The value of a franchise brand is that many great minds are working to enhance the experience of an interaction point that cascades to each location or service area by creating repeatable operations, programs, or offerings.

In this case, franchisees of the Camp Bow Wow system have a new offering for puppy parents that local or national brands might not offer. The fact that this program caters to a dog’s developmental journey at such a critical point in their lives further compounds its importance.
