A Lesson In Generosity, Scaled
Primrose Schools closed out the season with a nationwide show of heart; children and families at more than 550 independently owned schools collected over 352,000 nonperishable items during the annual Caring and Giving Food Drive. The franchise network’s effort sends immediate help to local food banks while giving young students a hands-on way to experience community care.
Primrose Schools, a provider of early education and care for U.S. families, anchors the drive in its Balanced Learning® curriculum. The approach puts empathy, planning and follow-through into practice; students earn chore money, budget together, shop for donations and bring goods from home. The result feels both simple and powerful; little hands move big numbers for neighbors in need.
Curriculum That Teaches Character
Primrose educators use age-appropriate activities each November to make giving without expectation feel tangible. Families can keep that momentum going at home with The Primrose Friends YouTube series, including the episode “Benjamin the Bear on Generosity”; it reinforces that giving can make everyone’s hearts feel happy. Parent priorities track with this model; three in four parents say they want young children to learn the importance of community service, and they value programs that build character alongside academics.
“The Caring and Giving Food Drive is a powerful example of how our Balanced Learning® curriculum goes beyond academics to nurture character and compassion,” said Dr. Amy Jackson, Chief Early Learning Strategy officer at Primrose Schools. “Through meaningful acts of service, children experience the joy of giving and see the difference they can make in their communities, especially at a time when so many families are facing heightened need.”
Franchise Heart takeaway
Food banks across the country continue to see elevated demand; nearly 14% of U.S. households struggled to afford enough food in 2025, up from 12.5% in 2024. Primrose families responded locally and in real time, stocking pantry shelves from Washington, D.C. to Tampa to Lubbock. Since 2023, Primrose schools have donated more than 1.1 million food items to nonprofits, shelters and community partners; the drive shows how franchise systems can mobilize quickly and consistently for community impact.
For franchisors, Primrose’s playbook highlights a replicable framework: align brand values with classroom actions, invite families into the process, and measure outcomes that matter on the ground. The Caring and Giving Food Drive turns character education into community relief; it also demonstrates how a dispersed network can deliver unified impact without losing the local touch.
